Saving Money on Toys this Christmas

With Christmas just around the corner, it’s around about now that parents all over the country will start panicking about how they are going to afford the festivities as well as treating the kids as much as they deserve to be.

While it can be incredibly tempting to head for the toy stores and spend every penny you have on the kids’ Christmas lists, there are ways that you can save money on play goodies. Be sensible, and think ahead and you can see your money go much further this Christmas, without scrimping on presents.

Start Now

If you start a little earlier, you will be able to take advantage of any mid-season sales that may pop up between now and the big day. By making a list of things you want to buy and crossing things off as you go, you will be able to stick to a budget without overspending frivolously.

Use the Sales

As mentioned above, use the sales. There are usually loads of great toy sales in the run up to Christmas, with many products being half price or in 3 for 2 offers. Your money can go a lot further, being able to buy gifts for all the kids, from a baby gym for tiny ones to a dolls’ house.

Check the stores after Xmas

Plan ahead for 2014 and pick up some of the fabulous post-festive bargains. Shops such as Boots often sell some of the 3 for 2 gifts for less than half price after the big day is done and dusted. You can also do this for stocking fillers gifts so that you pay a fraction of the price you would in November.

Shop Around

Don’t assume that, just because Argos has a toy sale on, that they are the cheapest place for the toys you’re after. Shop around so that you know you’re getting the best deal.

Shop Online

Before you go out and buy the toys you’ve seen in the high street, check online to see how much they are. Sites such as Amazon are often extremely competitively priced and, if you take advantage of the free month’s Prime trial or choose items with free super saver delivery, you won’t have to pay postage, either!

Buy Second Hand

Your children won’t care if everything they have is brand new. If you find something they’d love that has been used but is still fantastic quality, buy it!

Don’t panic about the predicted cost of Christmas – be careful, and it doesn't have to be as expensive you might think!

  1. Amazon is ace. We got 3 for £15 for our youngest last year. He was 11 months old so we "filled in the gaps" of toys we didn't already have. Fantastic value and great quality. This year we did all the boys' presents in the summer sales sm

  4. Watch out for second hand toy sales about now. Mums are busy clearing the decks ready for new toys at Christmas, so bargains are to be had. Last year I picked up a gorgeous wooden dolls-house incl. furniture for just £10, plus some unopened boxes of meccano for £2.50 each. BARGAIN! My children are 2 and 4, so they really don't care if a toy comes brand new in a box, they are just glad to have it.

  5. I have been shopping around looking for offers on kids toys! Some of them are so expensive so I always look for early sales and get stocked up! ELC have just had a half price sale on toys during the half term.

Bissell Vac and Steam Machine Review and Giveaway

I have hard floors downstairs which I love.  They are much more practical than carpet with 2 mucky boys and a dog. Over the past 8 years I have tried all sorts of ways to keep them clean and I think I have finally found the product that does that for me. It is the  Bissell Vac and Steam Machine .  This amazing suel action machine vacuums and steam cleans either independently or at the same time.  It means that I have done away with my vacuum and steam cleaner downstairs (which I gave to my brother in law). What I like: You can either vacuum or steam clean or do both It is lightweight and easy to manoeuvre The handle is adjustable great for a home with people of different heights and for getting the kids involved. You need no chemicals The pads are washable and reusable It comes with a two year guarantee It warms up fast (within 30 seconds) so no long wait to start cleaning It costs under £100 It is space saving.  No need for a separate vacuum, steam cleaner or mop.

Dumping the tumble dryer and Ecoforce giveaway

We have a tumble dryer, but it broke before christmas and we  couldn't afford to get it repaired, so I have been managing with an old fashioned wooden clothes rail and hanging bedding over the doors to dry, This last would of weeks however, I have been hanging the washing outside and it has been drying much quicker and with less creases, so I am going to take the plunge and instead of getting the dryer replaced I am going to give it away. Ecoforce heard me on twitter bemoaning the fact that I was chasing laundry round the garden as my pegs were not working and very kindly sent me some of their Ecoforce pegs to try and they have been fab. So in conjunction with Ecoforce I have a year's supply of green cleaning and washing up wonder products worth £50 comprising the following: EcoForce Peg Basket x 1 EcoForce Clothes Line x1 EcoForce Pegs x 2 packs Several of each of: EcoForce sponges, scourers, cloths, duster and bag grips Dishmatic Dishmatic Refills x
